I expect that many of you seasoned travelers regularly use in-flight WiFi but I had not tried it before an Expedia cross-country recruiting trip I took last month. WiFi provider Gogo was in the news a few weeks ago with its announcement of a new faster service (to be launched next year) so I thought I would try it the current service. I’m pleased to report that it worked very well with my MacBook Pro and my Nokia Lumia 1020 phone. I was able to keep up with my email on a business travel day and to post some great wing shots on Instagram (you can follow me there as @TravelTekker). Twitter and Facebook worked well, except that I had some issues trying to post large photos. I didn’t have any problems posting photos to Instagram using the excellent 6tag Windows Phone client.
If you want to try out Gogo, you can buy an all-day pass in advance at http://gogoair.com for $14. Had I purchased it on my flight, I would have had to pay $21 to access it after we were in the air.
Highly recommended if you could benefit from internet access while traveling. Best for longer flights and not generally available on international flights (it uses ground stations).
